About Us

“Our children are incredibly amazing…  Let’s empower and celebrate them!” – Nellie Valentine

Who we are:

Author Nellie Valentine is a parent who understands the unique journey a family takes with children on the spectrum, having lived it for over twenty years.  Swanky Brain, Inc. was created to assist and support parents.  Our goal as a corporation is two-fold:

  1. To create a place for parents to converge, learn and contribute to a conversation that would result in better services, access and support for our kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
  2. To impart a sense of urgency!  From the inception a diagnosis Autism, Aspergers Syndrome, ADHD or other Neurodevelopmental Disorders, every day that goes by is critical for actionable intervention.  We want to help families bridge the gap from the time an individual is diagnosed  to the time to the time they receive significant interventions and substantive support.  With early and immediate intervention, the chances for success are increased.  We want to  offer compassion because we know precisely how they are feeling every step of the way. We are passionate about educating parents and helping individuals on the spectrum achieve self-management.

For Nellie Valentine, Author and Founder of Swanky Brain, Inc. this is a very personal mission:  “Nineteen years ago when my son was two years old, he was diagnosed with Autism.  I had no idea what Autism was… but somehow I knew that something of tremendous significance was happening to my family; something life-changing.  So I embarked upon a journey of learning…  Over the years I worked with some great professionals who were very generous with their time and talent.  I was taught to use  practical behavior applications and social strategies to help both my children, as my daughter was later diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome as well. What I had found is that there oftentimes remain a disconnect with parents and a huge time gap from day one of the diagnosis to the time they are open to receive significant interventions and substantive support  for their kids. There are many reasons for this; the first is that we are in total overwhelm!  Another is lack of the the availability of ‘parent-to-parent’ peer education and the inability for some institutions to effectively communicate with parents in a way they understand.  There is tremendous value in receiving guidance from someone who has walked many miles in your shoes.    It certainly can be a game-changer in your perspective on the diagnosis.”

Helping individuals on the spectrum achieve self-management!
